Diagnosis
In Ayurveda there are primarily two ways of diagnosis. Both deal with different aspects of human life. Both can be applied singularly or combined. Here they are only described for illustration. They should only be applied by a well trained Ayurveda physician.
The Eightfold Examination
With this method eight aspects of the body are examined:
- Pulse
- Tongue
- Voice
- Skin
- Eyes
- Entire appearance
- Urine
- Excrements
By means of these eight Ayurveda diagnoses the momentary relationship of the three Doshas can be determined. They give the physician an overview over the condition of the patient. Thus, type and progress of the illness can be determined.
The Tenfold Examination
The tenfold examination may be accomplished instead of or additionally to the eightfold examination. This method considers ten further aspects of the body.
- the condition of the body
- the current state of the illness
- the vitality of the tissue
- the kind of physique
- the body measures
- the flexibility
- the psychological condition
- the digestion
- the general condition
- the age
